On September 15, Castle Dental® in Austin, TX opened its doors to provide no cost dental services for those in need from their surrounding communities. Over 40 volunteers from neighboring Castle Dental offices arrived ready to serve many low-income, underinsured individuals who may not have seen a dentist in years.
Smiles for Everyone Foundation partnered with local nonprofit organizations to help pre-screen and refer patients to the dental clinic. Partners include homeless shelters and support services organizations such as Caritas of Austin, a homeless support organization; Central Texas Food Bank; Refugee Services of Texas; and Mobile Loaves and Fishes, a community support organization.
Patients expressed their gratitude as they were leaving the office after their appointment, thanking the volunteers for their time and services:
“This visit means more to me than you can imagine. It’s the best thing that’s happened to me in years,” said patient Richard R., whose last dental appointment was six years ago.
Patient Johna M. states, “Thank you for helping me when no one else could. I am walking out with a smile!”
Volunteer providers at this event included Dr. Edgardo Gonzalez, Dr. Francisco Somoza, Dr. Ivan Candelario-Vega, Dr. Lan Dung Le, Dr. Lindsay Peterson, Dr. Luis Orraca, Dr. Mihaela Atanasiu, Dr. Samir Alrajab, Dr. Sravanthi Vasarla, and Dr. Evan Blackwell.
Overall, the Austin team provided care for nearly 70 patients, delivering over $60,000 in donated dentistry!
