The SFEF Philippines volunteers travelled for 2 hours driving and over 1 hour walking, crossing 3 mountains, just to get to this remote area and serve the Matigsalug tribe. Only motorcycles with wings attached to them and horses can enter the slippery and rough roads, so the team leader rented motorcycles to transport the supplies.

Dental supplies and equipment for dental treatment, food for the feeding program, and slippers as gifts were transported and provided for the Matigsalug tribe.

The Matigsalugs are the original inhabitants of the Salug River (now called the Davao River). Thus, their name comes from the words matig, meaning “from,” and salug, meaning “river.” Over the years, the tribe moved upstream of the Salug River due to constant raids and harassment. They were pushed further inland because of the influx of various groups, such as the Ilocanos, Batangueños, Ilonggos, and Cebuanos in the area.

We are so proud of our incredible Philippines team who goes above and beyond to reach unreached people with dental care!
