The Smile for Everyone Foundation’s (SFEF) Laos outpost has been diligently working to change lives and create healthy, happy smiles. This year, their efforts have made a profound impact on underserved communities, as they extend their compassionate dental services to those who need them the most.

One of the standout stories from this year’s mission involved a visit to a public elementary school in Vientiane. Many of the students at this school come from low-income families, and they often struggle to afford proper dental care. The result? Over a hundred students with dental issues, some of which were incredibly severe. One student’s condition was so dire that he chose to become a Buddhist novice instead of attending school, all because of unbearable dental pain.

Upon examination, the SFEF team discovered that this young novice had several milk teeth that were stubbornly linked to his permanent teeth, causing him years of pain and discomfort in his 36th tooth. It was a challenging case, but the SFEF Laos outpost was up to the task. With their expertise and unwavering commitment to making a difference, they provided him with the treatment he so desperately needed.

This young man was not only relieved of his excruciating pain, but he was also overjoyed to learn that there are compassionate individuals and organizations dedicated to helping those who lack access to essential dental care. His story is a testament to the transformative power of the SFEF’s mission.

The SFEF Laos outpost extended its reach even further by serving three areas in July and August, providing dental care to over 200 people. They accomplished this monumental task with the help of six dedicated doctors. Among those who received care was an 85-year-old woman who had lost her natural teeth, relying only on glued teeth to eat and speak.

This elderly woman lacked the financial means to pay for dental care, and her dental health was deteriorating. Dr. Sonexay, one of the compassionate dentists on the SFEF team, extended a helping hand to her. Her fear and anxiety melted away in the face of Dr. Sonexay’s gentle and patient demeanour. With great care and professionalism, he managed to address her more than ten loose teeth, giving her not just a healthier smile but a newfound sense of confidence and comfort.

The Smiles for Everyone Foundation’s Laos outpost continues to make a remarkable difference in the lives of underserved individuals. Through their dedication and compassion, they are transforming not only smiles but also the futures of those they touch. These heartwarming stories serve as a reminder that accessible dental care can change lives, instilling hope and confidence in communities that need it most. The SFEF Laos outpost’s mission to provide dental care for all is truly something to celebrate, and we eagerly anticipate the positive impact they will continue to make in the years to come.
