SFEF Paraguay — bringing dental care home to communities that need it most.

In rural Paraguay, the Sawhoyamaxa Indigenous Community received dental care in their own territory for the first time. Through a Smiles for Everyone Foundation (SFEF) outreach, 27 patients were treated—bringing essential dental services, relief, and hope to families who previously had no access to a dentist.

Bringing Dental Care Home: SFEF Reaches the Sawhoyamaxa Community in Paraguay

For many families in rural Paraguay, access to a dentist isn’t just difficult—it’s nearly impossible.

Located approximately 50 kilometers from Concepción, the Sawhoyamaxa Indigenous Community has long faced significant barriers to basic healthcare. While a local USF health unit has recently been established, limited resources and distance still make it incredibly challenging for residents to receive essential services—especially dental care.

For most families, seeking treatment means traveling long distances—an option that is often too costly, time-consuming, or simply out of reach.

But recently, something powerful changed.

Bringing Dental Care Directly to the Community

In response to this urgent need, Smiles for Everyone Foundation (SFEF) organized a dental outreach—bringing professional dental care directly into the heart of the Sawhoyamaxa community.

This outreach marked a historic moment. Community leaders shared that this was the first time dental care had ever been provided within their own territory.

Instead of traveling far distances to find a dentist, patients were able to receive safe, high-quality treatment close to home—in a familiar and accessible environment.

Led by Dr. Rosa Rojas and her dedicated clinical team, the outreach delivered critical dental services throughout the afternoon.

In just one visit:

  • 27 patients were treated
  • 55 dental procedures were completed

These treatments addressed immediate oral health issues—relieving pain, preventing further complications, and improving overall well-being.

Because untreated dental conditions don’t just affect smiles—they impact nutrition, confidence, and quality of life.

Reaching Beyond One Community

Reaching Beyond One Community

The impact of this outreach extends far beyond Sawhoyamaxa. The local health unit also supports approximately ten surrounding villages within a 40-kilometer radius, meaning this initiative helps strengthen access to dental care for an even wider population.

By bringing care directly into underserved areas, SFEF is removing one of the biggest barriers: distance.
