On March 16, 2018, our Ghana International Outpost team did another outreach to provide dental care for children in need in the community. Patients were screened and selected at the African Faith Basic School in the Atwima Kwanwoma District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Children from the Adom Baptist Child Development Centre, Behanase in the Ashanti region joined as well.

Students at the African Faith Basic School learn under structures with wooden tables, and teachers use shade under trees as their offices. This uncomfortable set-up really affects the teaching and learning at the school, but worked as the space to provide the dental treatment and education.

While the medical team was busy setting up the area for dental care, two of the team members took the time to educate the children on proper oral care. They asked the students questions about their teeth and how they took care of them. The students were then taught how to properly brush their teeth, how often to brush their teeth, and how to prevent oral diseases. It was a great learning experience for the kids and gave them opportunities to ask questions about their oral health.

Overall, the team was able to provide dental care and education to 74 students in the local community. Dr. Tinuola Esther Mark continues to lead the Ghana Dental Team on their mission of delivering Smiles for Everyone!
